"Thursday’s episode turns the tables a bit as we meet Dr. Lecter’s shrink, played by The X Files’ Gillian Anderson. “She is a woman who has retired from therapy after an incident, and Hannibal is her only patient [because] he refused to acknowledge her retirement,” creator Bryan Fuller says. “As the season goes on, we see how closely tied Hannibal was to that horrible incident in her professional life, and we also get to see her slowly start to piece together who her patient may be.” That can’t possibly end well, right? “She has this intimate relationship with a brutal murderer and … has insight into [his] psyche,” Fuller says. “What happens when she opens the wrong door?"
